Cable protection systems for 12- and 48-volt electrical systems

An increasing number of electronically controlled systems, such as air conditioning systems, safety assistants or even communication systems, as well as the demand for a reduction of CO2 emissions, push 12 volt electrical systems ever further to their limits. A second voltage level can remedy this situation, as it allows the amount of energy to be increased more than fourfold. However, raising the vehicle electrical system voltage to 48 volts also involves new sources of danger, such as the emergence of overvoltages and electric arcs.
